About

I’m a Behavioural Economist. I’m a Product Manager. I’m an Econometrician. I’m a Growth Expert. I’m a Data Scientist. I’m a Project Manager. All wrapped up in one.

My Work

I am the Director of Product for Goss, a social gaming app. I develop and lead a behavioural and data-driven product strategy which drives monetisation, conversion and retention. I have spent the better part of the last decade running experiments for start-ups, developing product strategy, applying behavioural science, and leading product teams. My research in the relationship between competition & risk-taking, and that between regret and financial investments has underpinned the behavioural strategy here at Goss, improving retention, engagement and driving monetisation.

Previously, I led the Growth Product team at Block Renovation, a tech-powered disrupter in the home renovation market. Prior to Block, I led the wider Product & Growth team at The Fabulous, an award-winning wellness app born at Duke University’s Center for Advanced Hindsight. As Lead Growth Product Manager and Behavioural Economist, I developed the organisation’s central behavioural strategy, growth strategy, and experimentation process. Before Fabulous, I worked in legal regulation, improving regulatory policies via applied behavioural insight and experimental testing.

My academic research explores the link between competition and risk-taking behaviours, investment behaviours and financial regret, and answers the age-old question: Do violent video games cause violent behaviour?

My Education

I’m classically trained in Behavioural Economics, Experimental Economics, and Econometrics. I have my M.Sc. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, with the Barcelona School of Economics. Before that, I obtained my B.A. in Economics with Distinction from the University of Calgary.

My Writing

I write about behavioural science in fun ways – mixing anecdotal stories with behavioural economics. In both my career and writing, I work to empower people in the art and science of lasting behavioural change.

My blog on “Why We Fail” was featured in Forge publication on Medium: https://medium.com/@iamchanellems
